The Metropolitan Police said on Thursday that they were investigating reports that a vehicle drove toward and endangered Jewish school children on April 20.

A vehicle allegedly mounted the curb where three 14-year-old boys were standing, but they reportedly moved out of the way, and there were no injuries.

By Thursday, the investigation was still treating the incident as a possible religiously motivated aggravated assault, and no arrests had been made.

The Met said it was in contact with the boys’ school, which the Jewish News identified as the Hasmonean High School for Boys. The school declined to comment.

Jewish News reported that a letter had been sent to students and parents about the incident on Wednesday, but The Jerusalem Post couldn’t immediately verify its authenticity.

The Community Security Trust said it was aware of the incident and urged anyone who witnessed the alleged crime to contact it or the police.

The Campaign Against Antisemitism responded to the incident on social media, decrying that there was “nothing to which these antisemitic cowards won’t stoop.”

‘All of this was preventable’

“What’s so tragic is that nothing surprises British Jews anymore, because all of this was preventable if the authorities had heeded our warnings two years ago and done their jobs,” CAA said on X, referencing the spike in antisemitic incidents in the United Kingdom since the October 7 Massacre. “They refused, and now we and our children are paying the price for their stubborn ineptitude.”

The timeframe of the alleged vehicular incident places it within the spate of arson and other attacks against Jewish, Israeli, and Iranian dissident sites since March. This included last Wednesday’s Golders Green stabbing attack, which wounded two Jewish residents.

In response to the wave of attacks, the Met announced on Wednesday that it was forming a new community protection team to address antisemitic crimes and protect the Jewish community.
