Israel intercepts Gaza ‘condom’ flotilla, detaining nearly 200 activists, sparking backlash

Israel’s navy boarded more than 20 vessels from a the Global Sumud Flotilla headed toward Gaza, detaining 175 activists before transferring most of them to the Greek island of Crete.

The flotilla was intercepted by Israeli authorities who said the activists were moved from naval ships to Greek boats before being taken ashore, where buses and ambulances were waiting.

Among those detained were reportedly 31 Spanish citizens and several New Yorkers. Dubbed as the ‘condom flotilla’ after recreational items were found on board, there has also been backlash on the true intention of the activists who set sail to Gaza.
