An IDF soldier undergoing basic training was seriously wounded by gunfire during a shooting exercise at a training base in the Jordan Valley on Tuesday evening.
A preliminary inquiry raised suspicion that the soldier was struck by an accidentally discharged round. He received medical treatment at the scene immediately after the incident and was later evacuated to a hospital in serious condition. His family was notified.
Investigators from the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division were dispatched to the base following the unusual incident and opened an investigation into the circumstances. The inquiry will examine how the shooting exercise was conducted, the handling of the weapon, and the circumstances that led to the accidental discharge.
Once the investigation is completed, its findings will be transferred to the Military Advocate General’s Office for review.
