Cadence Design Systems introduced a family of AI models Monday designed to help engineers build computer chips and electronic systems, with options to run the software inside a customer’s own data center rather than only through a cloud service.
The portfolio, called Maestro, connects specialized models with Cadence’s engineering tools and AI agents. The company said the first models are available to selected early-access customers in the fourth quarter of 2026. That is a limited rollout, not general availability for every customer.
In its October 26 announcement, Cadence said the system combines general-purpose AI models with models adapted for chip and system design. The agents can interpret design requirements, break work into tasks, generate design content and evaluate results against engineering constraints.
The approach uses feedback from Cadence’s design software and mathematical solvers to assess the models’ output and support further training. Customers can also adapt the models using their own proprietary data, designs and workflows, the company said.
Nvidia is contributing its Nemotron models and collaborating with Cadence on security through the OpenShell Reference Architecture. The Maestro portfolio includes multiple model sizes and architectures rather than a single model.
Cadence says the complete environment, including its agents, Maestro models and design tools, can run on the company’s cloud platform, public clouds or customer-controlled on-premises infrastructure. Those choices address customers’ requirements for data privacy, security and deployment control.
The company reported initial results of up to 30% better design quality and up to five times greater token efficiency compared with a general-purpose foundation model. Those are Cadence’s own reported results, not independently verified performance guarantees.
The portfolio will work with Cadence’s AuraStack, ChipStack, InnoStack and ViraStack agents and its electronic and system design automation tools.
