Norton launched Safe AI on Monday, adding controls inside Norton 360 intended to limit unwanted actions by AI tools, restrict access to personal files and flag risky links in AI chat services.
The consumer cybersecurity brand, part of Gen Digital, said the features are available on Windows and Mac, although individual controls have different platform and application limits.
Action Shield is designed to help stop unwanted AI actions and harmful prompt injections, according to Norton’s October 26 announcement. The company lists Claude, Cursor, OpenClaw and VS Code as currently supported tools.
Safe Zone lets users choose whether connected files and content are available with full access, read-only access or no access. That feature is available on Windows only.
Safe Links checks potentially harmful links shared through ChatGPT and Claude before users open them. Norton said that protection currently supports the browser versions of those services.
The launch extends Norton’s consumer security software into AI-assisted work, where a chat service may surface links, read connected content or act on a user’s behalf. The company describes Safe AI as an additional layer of protection, rather than a replacement for controls inside the AI tools themselves.
Norton’s announcement places the features within Norton 360’s advanced scam protection. It does not list a separate Safe AI price.
