A Starbucks visit may look different even when the store has not closed for a long renovation. The company says much of the work in its North American coffeehouse refresh program happens overnight or over a few nights, so stores can keep serving customers.

In an October 28 feature, Starbucks describes changes such as new chairs, paint, artwork, curtains, rugs and greenery. The piece is a company account of its design program, not a new promise that every store will be renovated immediately.

What customers may notice

The updates focus on the place where customers sit and spend time. Starbucks says designs are tailored to each space and neighborhood, rather than giving every coffeehouse the same layout.

One coffeehouse leader quoted by the company described a new color palette, furniture, artwork, drapes and a rug. The company did not present that example as a list of changes coming to every location.

Why do the work at night?

Starbucks says most of these smaller design updates happen while stores are closed for the night, allowing coffeehouses to continue serving customers as the work progresses. Its design executive said some changes happen in one night and others take several nights.

That does not establish that every store will have uninterrupted hours during a refresh. The feature does not provide a store-by-store construction calendar.

What is planned next?

Starbucks says it accelerated a plan to complete at least 1,500 coffeehouse refreshes by the end of its fiscal 2026 and plans to increase the pace in fiscal 2027. The October 28 feature does not report a final completed count or name all the stores in the program.
