Gold futures fell sharply Friday morning, with the December contract dropping $120.40, or 3%, to $3,911 an ounce, according to CME Group’s delayed quotes.

The contract traded as low as $3,909.30 after opening at $4,033.60, the data showed. It had settled at $4,031.40 on Thursday and held near the $4,000 level through the week.

The selloff in gold came even as crude oil moved the other way: U.S. crude rose about 2% to near $104 a barrel Friday morning after Saudi air defenses intercepted two more Houthi projectiles, according to CME Group’s oil quotes.
