MUSCAT – The Royal Navy of Oman evacuated 25 crew members from the Panama-flagged commercial vessel RITI after the ship was targeted and caught fire off Musandam, according to a statement posted Friday by Oman’s Maritime Security Centre.
The navy carried out the evacuation in cooperation and coordination with the centre. The statement placed the incident 1.6 nautical miles off the coast of Musandam Governorate.
The centre’s Arabic statement said the crew members were provided with necessary medical care. It did not give their individual medical conditions.
The announcement appeared on the Maritime Security Centre’s X account in a post displaying an 8:13 a.m. timestamp on October 30. This is an account of that statement, not a newly announced afternoon operation.
The statement did not identify who targeted the vessel or what was used. It also did not identify the ship’s cargo. Those details remain unestablished by the announcement.
