Bitcoin held near $77,300 on Saturday morning, steadying at the end of a week that knocked it to a one-month low, even as the world’s largest crypto exchange worked through a security incident it estimated at $6.3 billion.

Bitcoin last changed hands at $77,334, little changed over 24 hours, according to Coinbase exchange data. Thursday’s slide to $76,301 was its weakest level in a month. Ether traded at $2,244, up slightly on the day, the data showed.

Binance said in a security incident update that the estimated total impact sits at around $6.3 billion, that about $3 billion has been frozen on-chain, and that it will cover all losses from its SAFU fund and company funds, adding that user funds are safe. The exchange said its initial investigation points to a compromised employee laptop, found no evidence of a wallet private-key leak, and said withdrawals remain temporarily suspended while deposits operate normally.
