More than 52.7 million Americans have already cast ballots in Tuesday’s midterm elections, a nationwide tally that keeps climbing as the final weekend of early voting comes to a close.
The count reached 52,796,215 in the University of Florida Election Lab tracker’s Saturday update, marked 9:58 p.m. Eastern. The lab compiles figures reported by state election officials; not every state provides daily updates.
The latest tally follows earlier JBizNews coverage of more than 43 million early votes, based on an Associated Press analysis published Friday.
In the 27 states that track party registration, registered Democrats account for 43.1% of early ballots cast, Republicans 31.7%, and unaffiliated or minor-party voters 25.2%. The lab cautions that registration figures describe the voters, not which candidates received their votes.
Older voters dominate the early electorate so far. Among the 14 states reporting age data, voters over 65 have cast 43.7% of early ballots, more than the 41-to-65 group at 37.3%. Voters aged 18 to 25 account for 5.9%.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
