Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Sunday that talks through Qatari mediators were moving forward, but Tehran and Washington had not reached a final agreement, according to Israel National News.
“Consultations with the mediators regarding the two-day plan are continuing and moving toward implementation, but we have not yet reached a definitive conclusion,” Araghchi said, the outlet reported. The statement leaves the proposed framework under discussion rather than agreed or in force.
Araghchi said an Iranian delegation led by a deputy foreign minister had traveled to Qatar to continue discussions with mediators who had visited Tehran in recent weeks. He said the trip was not intended to include direct negotiations with American officials.
“Reaching a conclusion depends on the answers the other side provides to our questions,” Araghchi said. He also said Iran remained ready for either diplomacy or military defense, depending on Washington’s “rationality,” according to the report.
The comments add Iran’s public account to earlier reports of progress and substantial gaps in the indirect talks. Those discussions have included a possible two-day framework involving shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and broader negotiations. Araghchi’s statement does not establish that the shipping route has reopened or that sanctions, nuclear restrictions or military arrangements have changed.
The diplomatic update came as President Donald Trump said the conflict would end “very soon” through a deal or further American action. Neither account amounts to an announcement of a completed agreement. For energy markets and businesses moving goods through the Gulf, the terms and timing of any settlement remain unsettled.
