Lumen Technologies and Microsoft said Monday, November 2, that they are expanding joint sales efforts for enterprise networks supporting Azure migrations and artificial intelligence projects. The companies plan to coordinate account planning earlier, bringing network decisions into discussions about cloud and AI infrastructure.
The announcement is a co-selling collaboration, not a disclosed purchase contract. The companies did not give a contract value or a timetable for completing the additional capabilities they intend to offer through Azure and Microsoft Marketplace.
According to their joint company release, Lumen intends to bring its full suite of cloud-networking and application-connectivity capabilities to Azure. The companies also plan to identify further Lumen offerings for Azure and Microsoft Marketplace over time. Those plans should not be confused with integrations that are already available.
One existing option is Alkira, a Lumen Connect solution available through Microsoft Marketplace. The release distinguishes that established purchasing route from the broader capabilities the companies are considering for future distribution.
The sales effort targets organizations whose information and applications are spread across public clouds, private data centers, offices and partner systems. For those customers, an AI project can require decisions about moving data, securing connections and linking existing systems to Azure before an application can be deployed.
Microsoft and Lumen said their expanded account planning would focus on opportunities where network modernization, Azure migration and AI transformation overlap. Their stated priorities include connecting distributed data, applying consistent network policies across environments and making it easier to add clouds, partners and applications. These are the companies’ objectives, not independently measured customer results.
The initiative builds on an existing relationship: Lumen’s Private Connectivity Fabric supports Microsoft data-center connectivity, while Azure supports Lumen’s workload modernization. The new announcement extends that relationship into joint enterprise sales and planning rather than announcing that all the proposed offerings have launched.
The companies also plan to explore how AI-ready connectivity could work with Microsoft’s governance and security capabilities for AI agents. They said more details would follow as their joint go-to-market plans progress. For prospective customers, the near-term news is a more coordinated sales process; product availability and implementation details remain items to verify for each offering.
