UW Health completed its acquisition of the Beaver Dam medical center from Sanford Health Marshfield Clinic Health System on Sunday, November 1, bringing approximately 350 employees into the Madison-based health system. The campus is now UW Health Beaver Dam Hospital and Clinics, with existing patient services continuing during a phased integration.
The November 2 UW Health announcement, republished by WisBusiness, confirms the transaction has closed. It is a new step beyond the agreement announced in July, which had still anticipated a future closing. The latest announcement puts the number of employees joining UW Health at approximately 350.
Patients should expect little immediate change beyond signs and branding, according to Carey Gehl, UW Health’s chief strategy officer. Scheduled appointments will continue with existing care teams unless patients are told otherwise, and patients can request new appointments through My Marshfield Clinic or their clinic’s current phone number.
The patient portal is not changing immediately. UW Health says patients should continue using My Marshfield Clinic for health information, care-team messages, appointments and prescription refills until the planned move to UW Health MyChart in March 2027. Its patient transition FAQ describes the change as coming in spring 2027 and says instructions and support will be provided before it occurs.
Accepted insurance coverage is not changing, and billing arrangements remain the same for now, according to the closing announcement. Patients can continue paying bills through their existing methods, including My Marshfield Clinic. UW Health says it will give advance notice and support if those processes change.
The campus includes a hospital, a skilled nursing facility and independent senior living apartments. It also operates two assisted living facilities and primary care clinics in Columbus, Horicon and Waupun. Care will continue across hospital and clinic services, pharmacy, home health, hospice, nursing care, assisted living and memory care, the announcement says. Home health and hospice will become part of UW Health Care Direct.
UW Health plans to integrate the campus in stages, aligning clinical systems, connecting patients with specialty services and recruiting staff. Those are the next steps in the integration, not a new list of expanded services already operating on closing day. The announcement did not disclose a transaction price.
