Trinity Health is investing $306 million in a new support-services building at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, Loyola Medicine announced Monday, November 2. The seven-story, 242,608-square-foot project is the first phase of a wider campus redevelopment plan, not a new inpatient tower.

Construction remains subject to state and local approvals. In its announcement, Loyola said work is expected to begin in fall 2026 and the facility is scheduled to open in winter 2029. Those are planned dates, not confirmation that construction has begun or that the project has received all required approvals.

The building will bring together administrative departments, support functions and clinical departments now located in several buildings across the campus. Loyola said the consolidation is intended to strengthen operations and make room for future clinical expansion.

Moving administrative and support services would free space for a proposed replacement inpatient tower with expanded critical-care capacity and a new emergency department. That tower is a separate future phase. The $306 million announcement concerns the support-services building and does not establish approval or construction of the inpatient project.

Shawn P. Vincent, president and CEO of Trinity Health’s Illinois/Indiana Region, said the investment reflects confidence in Loyola Medicine’s future and would help prepare the medical center for expansion while supporting staff and operational performance.

Loyola University Medical Center President Elizabeth E. Early said the project would strengthen the infrastructure supporting the hospital’s operations and create space for future growth. The announcement positions the building as an enabling step for the campus plan rather than an immediate addition of inpatient beds.

The next milestones are the required approvals and the start of construction. The winter 2029 opening remains a scheduled target, while the proposed replacement tower and emergency-department expansion remain distinct from the project announced Monday.
