US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social during the US midterm elections on Tuesday to call on the Jewish community of Monsey, New York, to vote for Republican Congressman Mike Lawler.
“The Jewish community in Monsey, New York, and its surrounding neighborhoods, voted in very big numbers for me in our Historic 2024 Presidential Campaign. TREMENDOUS SUPPORT!” Trump wrote. “TODAY, the eyes of the Country are on New York again!”
“Congressman Mike Lawler has been a tremendous friend to the Jewish community and a strong leader in the fight against antisemitism. He has stood with the community when it mattered most, speaking out against hatred, and standing up for Religious Freedom and School Choice!”
Lawler is running in a suburban New York district that Kamala Harris won in 2024.
“Mike has worked tirelessly for his constituents, for our Country, and for the Jewish people,” Trump added. “He understands the importance of strong leadership, protecting our communities, and delivering REAL RESULTS for the people he represents.”
Antisemitic incidents in New York are rising
The US president’s endorsement focused on the importance of addressing and combating antisemitism, an issue at the forefront of Jewish voters’ minds. Antisemitic hate crimes had increased by 8.5% by August 2026 when compared to the previous year, The Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported, citing the New York Police Department (NYPD).
In the same period, shootings and murders in New York City fell to historic lows, JTA added.
On Monday, four Jewish school buses in Williamsburg, New York, were spray-painted with antisemitic and anti-Zionist graffiti, including slogans such as “F*** Israel,” “USA first,” and “Free Palestine.”
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the incident “abhorrent” in a post on X/Twitter.
“Every New Yorker, especially our children, deserves to live free of such hatred,” he wrote. “My team is in contact with the NYPD and community leaders. We will continue to use every tool at our disposal to confront antisemitism, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure that hatred has no place in our city.”
