Democrat Mitchell Berman is projected to defeat Republican Rep. Bryan Steil in Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District, flipping a southeastern Wisconsin seat Republicans had held for more than three decades.
Fox News projected Berman’s victory, and WPR also reported that Berman defeated Steil. The Associated Press had not called the race, and Steil had not conceded.
Berman, an emergency room nurse, declared victory Tuesday night, WisPolitics reported. The district was represented for 20 years by former House Speaker Paul Ryan. Steil is a former Ryan aide.
The result is a media race call, not election certification.
