European stocks closed at a two-month high Wednesday, joining the global rally that followed Democrats’ sweep of the U.S. Congress, Reuters reported.

The pan-European STOXX 600 ended up 1.82% at 657.40, its strongest close in two months. Bank stocks led with a 4.6% jump, while the oil and gas sector fell 2.4% as crude prices tumbled.

Novo Nordisk surged 5.6% after the drugmaker raised its forecast, one of the day’s standout movers.

For U.S. investors with international funds, Europe’s close adds to a day of broad post-election gains; for European exporters and banks, the sweep resets expectations for U.S. trade, tariff and regulatory policy in the months ahead.
