U.S. Treasury yields fell Wednesday as investors digested Democrats’ sweep of Congress, with the 10-year note at 4.89%, down about 6 basis points, as of 3:15 p.m. Eastern, according to CNBC market data.

Yields declined following the election results while eurozone yields edged higher, MarketWatch reported.

Falling yields reflect shifting expectations for federal borrowing, inflation and Federal Reserve policy under the incoming Congress, where Democrats will control both chambers’ fiscal committees.

For borrowers, sustained declines in the 10-year feed directly into mortgage and business-loan rates; a six-basis-point move is small but sets the direction lenders watch.
