News Corp’s profit jumped 43% in its fiscal first quarter as growth at Dow Jones, Realtor.com and its book publishing arm lifted revenue 6% to $2.28 billion.

Net income reached $215 million, up from $150 million a year earlier, and Total Segment EBITDA rose 19% to $403 million, the company reported Wednesday. Earnings were 29 cents a share, up from 20 cents, marking a fourteenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year profit growth.

All three engines fired. Dow Jones revenue rose 8%, helped by 11% growth in its Risk & Compliance business. REA Group, the Australian real estate listings arm, grew 13%. Move, the operator of Realtor.com, grew 5% with improving profitability. Book publishing revenue climbed 9% on strong sales and digital growth.

CEO Robert Thomson framed the results around the fight over AI and content. “High quality content is the very essence of AI,” he said, praising licensing partners OpenAI and Meta and warning other platforms to “choose compensation over confiscation, principle over plunder. To that end, we will woo and we will sue.”

For readers of The Wall Street Journal and shoppers of HarperCollins books, the quarter shows the company behind them leaning into paid content and professional data services rather than chasing clicks.
