Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan bought about $9.7 million of the chipmaker’s stock this week, a show of confidence after the shares tumbled on a weak forecast.
Tan bought 150,000 shares on November 2 through a family trust at a weighted average price of $64.73, according to a Form 4 signed November 4, CTech reported. The trust now holds 1,464,669 shares.
Intel shares closed Wednesday at $58.27, down 3.77%, IBTimes reported. The stock’s slide followed a weak fourth-quarter forecast; the reports do not link Wednesday’s decline to Tan’s purchase.
It is Tan’s second big buy in months. Since August he has purchased a combined 255,263 shares for about $19.7 million, a stake now worth about $14.9 million, per CTech — a paper loss on the earlier buys.
For readers: when a CEO spends his own money buying company stock, investors often read it as a bet that the market is being too pessimistic. It is a signal, not a guarantee.
