A tanker was struck by two unidentified projectiles about 50 nautical miles north of Qatar’s Madinat ash Shamal at about 6:20 p.m. ET Wednesday (2320 GMT Nov. 4), the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency said Thursday, Reuters reported (Nov. 5, 3:55 a.m. ET).

The British maritime agency said the status of the crew and the extent of any damage were unclear. No vessel name, attacker, casualties or oil-price reaction have been reported.

Qatar has stepped up mediation efforts to end the war between the United States and Iran. Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesperson said Tuesday that both sides were reviewing proposals put forward by mediators, with talks continuing, Reuters reported.

The incident is separate from the Oct. 30 strike on Qatari gas carrier Al Mayeda in the Gulf, in which owner Nakilat said no crew members were injured and the vessel remained safe and operational. The Associated Press has also reported tanker incidents in the Gulf.
