PARIS, Nov. 5, 2026 – Amundi announced Thursday that it has launched a tokenized share class of a flagship European equity index fund on the public Ethereum blockchain, using technology and infrastructure developed with asset-servicing company CACEIS.
The new share class remains integrated into the fund’s existing operating model, and investors can still access the fund through traditional channels, Amundi said. The announcement extends the company’s tokenization work beyond cash-management products into equity index investing.
Fund units on a blockchain, not a cryptocurrency portfolio
Tokenization means issuing fund units in digital form on a blockchain. In this case, the underlying investment remains a European equity index strategy. The Ethereum network provides the infrastructure for the digital share class; the announcement is not the launch of an Ether investment or cryptocurrency trading fund.
It also does not mean that Amundi is moving all its assets onto a blockchain. The change concerns a share class within an existing fund, with the traditional route continuing alongside it.
Cointelegraph reported that the fund tracks the STOXX Europe 600 Index, covering 600 large-, mid- and small-cap companies across developed European markets. The publication described Amundi as Europe’s largest fund manager by assets. Amundi’s announcement described the product as a flagship broad-market European equity index fund without naming the benchmark.
Connecting existing funds with digital distribution
CACEIS provided the technology and infrastructure for tokenizing the units, according to Amundi. The structure allows the manager to add a blockchain-based format without replacing the fund’s established operating model.
Amundi says it wants to develop a wider range of tokenized funds for institutional clients and digital platforms. It cites potential benefits from automating some processes, improving accessibility, accelerating settlement and increasing transparency. Those are the company’s stated aims, not guaranteed results from this launch.
The initiative follows Amundi’s earlier tokenized money-market fund share class and work on stablecoin subscriptions and distributed-ledger applications. The company presents equity index investing as a further step in connecting traditional investment products with digital-market infrastructure.
