Serbia’s Consul General in New York, Dr. Vladimir Bozovic, participated in Philadelphia’s November 5 “Innovation Day” program to explore business and research connections, according to the Serbian Consulate General’s official account.
The release said the program, titled “Philadelphia, America’s First City of Innovation,” was held at the invitation of the Consular Corps Association of Philadelphia, Business PA, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, and the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia.
The program’s mission was to show the city’s innovation capabilities to diplomatic, business, scientific and healthcare representatives and identify opportunities for international cooperation, the consulate said.
Retail, robotics and medical research
According to the release, participants assembled at the Union League before visiting Urban Outfitters’ headquarters at the Navy Yard. Discussions with company representatives covered global sourcing, product development and innovation.
The delegation also visited Ghost Robotics at the Navy Yard. The program included a working luncheon with international physicians and researchers from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, or CHOP, and Penn Medicine, with presentations on medical innovation and scientific research, the consulate said.
The technical program ended at Penn’s GRASP laboratory at the Penn Engineering Research and Collaboration Hub, or PERCH, where participants were introduced to robotics, automation, sensing and perception research, according to the release. Penn provides information about the facility on its GRASP at PERCH page.
Economic diplomacy and potential partnerships
The release identified Bozovic as Consul General and president of the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York. It quoted him as saying that business networking and economic diplomacy have been central to his work as the society’s president.
Throughout the visit, he highlighted Serbia’s IT industry, innovation sector and opportunities to connect Serbian companies, scientists and young professionals with Philadelphia businesses and research institutions, the consulate said.
How these introductions can build economic ties
The practical contribution of this visit was to put consular representatives in contact with businesses, physicians and researchers. The Urban Outfitters discussion about sourcing and product development, the Ghost Robotics visit, the CHOP and Penn Medicine working luncheon, and the Penn research visit created points of contact for possible follow-up.
The consulate said Bozovic promoted connections between Serbian companies, scientists and young professionals and Philadelphia institutions. In this setting, the consul general’s role is to open doors and build relationships: introducing people who may later explore trade, research partnerships or investment.
The account describes interest in cooperation and introductions.
The consulate said it would continue encouraging connections between Serbia and institutions and companies in the region. Its official website is the Consulate General’s account of the visit.
