The Lufthansa Group said Thursday its crews will not sleep overnight in Israel through Nov. 30, so some flights now stop to change crews. If you fly Lufthansa, SWISS or Austrian to or from Israel, here is what changes.

Who this covers: the Lufthansa Group, which includes Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines. If you fly any of them to or from Israel, check your flight status.

  • CHANGED: Three morning flights leaving Ben-Gurion Airport now stop in Athens or Larnaca for about 1 hour to change crews: Lufthansa LH691 to Frankfurt, Lufthansa LH683 to Munich and SWISS LX257 to Zurich.
  • NOT CHANGED: Other flights from the group are expected to stay nonstop. Times may shift and some flights could be canceled, according to local reports.

All three leave Ben-Gurion in the morning. The stop is to change crews.

Flight To Stop
LH691 Lufthansa Frankfurt Athens or Larnaca, 1-hr stop
LH683 Lufthansa Munich Athens or Larnaca, 1-hr stop
LX257 SWISS Zurich Athens or Larnaca, 1-hr stop

Why

The Lufthansa Group announced Thursday that its crews will not sleep overnight in Israel through Nov. 30, citing concern over a possible regional flare-up. Changing crews in Athens or Larnaca means they do not have to stay in Israel overnight.

What to do

Check your flight status before you head to the airport. Bookings are being updated, and passengers with affected tickets will be notified, so make sure your contact details are on your booking.
