Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar is projected to defeat Republican state House Speaker Lisa Demuth in Minnesota’s governor election, according to NBC News.
Klobuchar would become the first woman to serve as Minnesota governor. The result would keep the governor’s office in Democratic hands.
NBC reported that Klobuchar began her public career as Hennepin County’s top prosecutor before winning election to the Senate in 2006. She was reelected in 2012, 2018 and 2024 and sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.
Demuth led Republicans in the Minnesota House. The gubernatorial race is separate from the state’s U.S. Senate contest.
The result is a media race call, not official election certification.
