Apple finished Friday ahead of Nvidia in market value after a sharper fall in the chipmaker’s shares, putting the iPhone maker’s valuation above $5 trillion.
Nasdaq’s Apple data and Nvidia data showed Apple at approximately $5.03 trillion and Nvidia at $4.93 trillion in a check after the regular session closed.
Apple shares ended the regular trading day at $344.63, down 1.23%. Nvidia closed at $204.64, down 4.22%, according to Nasdaq’s closing-price records for October 30.
The change was not driven by an Apple share-price rally. Both stocks fell, but Nvidia’s steeper decline left Apple with the larger equity valuation.
Market capitalization measures the stock-market value of a company’s equity. It is not the same as revenue, profit or cash on hand, and the ranking can change as share prices move.
The comparison above uses the regular-session closing prices rather than the separate after-hours quotes.
