New York Assemblyman Aron Wieder won a second term in Rockland County’s 97th District, while candidates endorsed by the Lakewood Vaad and the Toms River Jewish Community Council recorded local election victories in New Jersey, according to election-night reports.

All results are unofficial until certified by the relevant election authorities.

Wieder returns to Albany

Democrat Aron Wieder defeated Republican Rob Bonomolo and Conservative candidate Abraham Klein, Rockland Daily and The Yeshiva World reported Tuesday night.

The Rockland County results page, last updated at 11:21 p.m. Tuesday, showed Wieder with 24,717 votes, Bonomolo with 15,483 and Klein with 958. Those are an election-night snapshot, not a final tally.

Wieder was first elected to the Assembly in November 2024 after serving in the Rockland County Legislature. His new two-year term begins in January 2027. The district includes parts of Ramapo and Orangetown.

Vaad-backed candidates win in Lakewood

In Lakewood, Mayor Ray Coles, a Democrat, and Committeewoman Deborah Fuentes, a Republican, retained their Township Committee seats, according to Lakewood Alerts. The outlet reported that all candidates endorsed by the Lakewood Vaad won their races.

On the Board of Education, Samuel Melnik and Harriet Goldberg won new terms, while Abraham D. Reich secured the third seat through a write-in campaign, the report said. Reich had been appointed to the board in August after the filing deadline.

Vaad-endorsed Dovid Bender and Harrison Pfeffer won the two Board of Fire Commissioners seats, Lakewood Alerts reported. The endorsements crossed party lines in the township contest.

Three TRJCC-endorsed candidates win in Toms River

In Toms River, incumbents Ashley Lamb and James Capone and newcomer Laura Picurro won the three seats representing the township on the Toms River Regional Board of Education, Lakewood Alerts reported.

All three were endorsed by the Toms River Jewish Community Council, known as TRJCC. The outlet reported Lamb with 11,187 votes, Capone with 11,043 and Picurro with 10,628, with all 63 districts reporting.

The results put local school spending and municipal representation alongside the state legislative race on the election-night agenda for communities in Rockland and Ocean counties.
