Democrat Bob Harvie won Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District on Tuesday, defeating Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick and flipping the suburban Philadelphia seat.
The Associated Press, NBC News, CBS News and Fox News each projected Harvie’s victory. Fitzpatrick had not conceded as of early Wednesday.
Harvie, a Bucks County commissioner and former teacher, declared victory at a Bucks County Democratic Committee watch party, WHYY reported. The district covers all of Bucks County and part of Montgomery County. A Democrat will represent Bucks County in Congress for the first time since 2011.
Fitzpatrick, a former FBI agent first elected in 2016, had repeatedly survived Democratic challenges in the politically competitive district.
The result is a media race call, not election certification.
