CPSC recall photo: Bodum Chambord French press
Bodum USA is recalling 5.9 million French press coffee makers with replaceable glass carafes because damaged or cracked glass can break during use and cause serious burns, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday.
The October 29 recall notice says Bodum has identified 70 reports of carafes breaking during use, including 48 reports of burns to consumers. The products were sold from 1974 through October 2026, making this a check for long-used kitchen equipment as well as recent purchases.
Which coffee makers are included
The recall covers Bodum 8-cup and 12-cup French presses with replaceable glass carafes in the Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper and Kenya models.
The Bodum name appears on the frame and inner lid of most models and is engraved, along with product warnings, on the glass carafes. The recall website has additional photos and model-identifying information.
The presses were sold at Target, Walmart and coffee and home-goods stores nationwide, and online at Bodum.com, Amazon.com, Target.com, Walmart.com and other retailers, for about $15 to $65.
What owners should do
CPSC says consumers should immediately stop using metal spoons or utensils to stir coffee in the glass carafe and contact Bodum to receive a plastic Bodum stirring spoon and a warning label.
The label reminds consumers not to use cracked or damaged carafes and not to use metal spoons to stir the contents. Metal utensils can damage the glass, which can lead to breakage during use, according to the recall notice.
The listed remedy is a repair consisting of the plastic stirring spoon and warning label. The notice does not offer a refund or a replacement carafe as that remedy.
Consumers can contact Bodum USA at 888-879-8213 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday, email Bodum3302@sedgwick.com, or use the recall information linked from the CPSC notice. The recall number is 27-055.
