Cognizant said Friday it is bringing together more than 25,000 professionals in a new group dedicated to delivering OpenAI products for corporate clients, as the technology-services company expands its work with Codex and ChatGPT.
The OpenAI Frontier Capability Group will focus on software engineering, updating older applications and AI-powered customer operations, Cognizant said in its October 30 announcement.
The figure describes professionals being brought together for the delivery organization, not 25,000 newly announced jobs. Cognizant did not disclose a contract value or revenue target for the group.
The company said more than 21,000 employees have earned over 40,000 OpenAI badges for completing learning tracks. Those training figures are separate from the size of the new delivery group.
For software development, the group will use Codex to support writing, testing and releasing code. Its application-modernization work will use OpenAI models to help analyze older mainframe software and generate cloud-native code, with engineers reviewing consequential decisions, Cognizant said.
Cognizant also plans to apply the models to sales, service and support. The company said its own sales and customer-success teams already use an OpenAI-based system to identify and pursue business opportunities.
Chief Executive Ravi Kumar S said the company is committing the professionals to bring OpenAI tools into clients’ businesses. OpenAI Chief Revenue Officer Dali Rajic said the dedicated practice and Cognizant’s internal use of the technology would help companies move AI into their operations.
Cognizant described itself as an Advanced partner in the OpenAI Partner Network. The announcement did not provide a completion timetable for organizing the full group.
