The flash flood warning for Monmouth and Ocean counties has expired after heavy rain ended and flood waters began receding, the National Weather Service said. Drivers at the Jersey Shore may still find flooded or restricted roads.

In its 10:57 a.m. statement, the Weather Service office in Mount Holly said the heavy rain had ended and flood waters were receding, so the warning would be allowed to expire.

Earlier, in a 9:14 a.m. update, the office said more than 3 inches of rain had fallen across the area that morning. It said Route 35 in Belmar, Route 71 in Manasquan, Route 34 and the I-195 ramps in Wall were closed or had lane restrictions.

The Weather Service warned of flooding on highways, streets and underpasses and in other poor-drainage and low-lying areas, and urged drivers to turn around rather than drive through flooded roads, noting that most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
