Gold rose 2 percent on Monday morning, November 2, with the December contract trading at $3,976 an ounce as of about 11:22 a.m. Eastern, up $77.10 from Friday’s official settlement of $3,898.90, according to CME Group prices. The contract touched $3,976.80, its highest of the session.

Gold opened the overnight session at $3,890 an ounce and traded as low as $3,889 before climbing through the morning, CME data show. The rise came as oil prices plunged, with U.S. crude down nearly 7 percent to $97 a barrel.
