IDF soldiers evacuated residents from a neighborhood in Hebron on Friday as part of preparations to demolish the homes of the terrorists who carried out last week’s attack in the city at Yehuda Junction.

Staff Sergeant Ron Yonatan Roytman, aged 23, from Ashkelon, and Sergeant Yuval Shai Svilem, aged 20, from Hod Hasharon, were killed in the attack.

According to the IDF, Roytman was a squad commander, and Svilem was a combat soldier in the Ari Battalion (775), Search and Rescue Brigade.

IDF sources said that the terrorists originally intended to carry out a larger attack on the heavily traveled Route 35, before realizing they would not get through the military checkpoint, deciding instead to attack the soldiers stationed there.

New settlement outposts opening in Hebron Hills in response to attack

On Sunday, the Mount Hebron Regional Council announced it was establishing eight new outposts in the Hebron Hills in response to the terror attack.

The council, which noted that it was fundraising to purchase security for the new outposts, said that it was establishing them “out of the deep grief and pain over the terrible attack at Yehuda Junction in which soldiers Ron Yonatan and Yuval Shai were murdered.”

Ariella Roitman and Danielle Greyman-Kennard contributed to this report.
