India removed its special additional excise duty on petrol exports and raised the levy on diesel and aviation turbine fuel on Saturday, changing the tax rates faced by fuel exporters.

The Finance Ministry’s notifications published in the official Gazette on October 31 set the petrol rate at zero, the diesel rate at 11.50 rupees per litre and the aviation turbine fuel rate at 11 rupees per litre. Both notifications took effect on the date of publication.

The changes reverse part of the previous adjustment. The government’s Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell lists the rates effective October 16 as 2.50 rupees per litre for petrol, 8.50 rupees for diesel and 10.50 rupees for aviation turbine fuel.

That means the petrol export levy falls by 2.50 rupees per litre, while diesel rises by 3 rupees and aviation fuel by 0.50 rupee.

The revisions concern export duties, not an announced reduction in prices at Indian fuel stations. The underlying petrol and diesel rules exclude fuel cleared for domestic consumption and retain an exception for exports by public-sector oil companies to Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The new notifications amend the existing duty schedules rather than replacing the wider rules governing fuel exports.
