Israelis spent NIS 51.6 billion on payment cards in October, up 12.5% from the same month last year, data from SHVA, which operates Israel’s card payment systems and ATM networks, shows.

The monthly figure was about NIS 5.7 billion higher than October 2025’s roughly NIS 45.9 billion, but average daily spending fell 6.2% from September to about NIS 1.66 billion, dropping below NIS 1.7 billion after four consecutive months above that threshold. September averaged a record of roughly NIS 1.78 billion per day, and July remains the peak month at NIS 54.9 billion.

Online transactions accounted for about NIS 29.5 billion, up 15.8% from October last year and roughly 57% of total card spending. Average daily online spending fell 7.7% from September to about NIS 952 million. Spending at physical businesses reached about NIS 22.1 billion, up 8.3% year on year, while average daily in-person spending of about NIS 712 million was down 4.2% from September.

The public withdrew about NIS 5.16 billion from bank ATMs in October, down 4.2% from a year earlier, with average daily withdrawals of about NIS 166 million, 11.1% below September’s average.

The figures are nominal and not adjusted for inflation, and calendar effects complicate the comparisons: most Jewish holidays fell in September this year while in 2025 Yom Kippur and much of Sukkot fell in October. The third anniversary of the October 7 massacre also dampened shopping, with spending in 11 major retail sectors about 9% lower than the following Wednesday. Election Day on October 27, a national day off, pushed spending in those sectors above NIS 1 billion, including NIS 181 million at restaurants and cafes and NIS 175 million at fashion stores.
