Democrat J.D. Ford is projected to defeat Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz in Indiana’s 5th Congressional District, flipping the suburban Indianapolis seat in one of the night’s notable upsets.
Fox News projected Ford’s victory, and NBC News named him its projected winner. The Associated Press and CBS News had not called the race, and Spartz had not conceded.
Ford, a member of the Indiana State Senate, declared victory Tuesday night, the Indiana Capital Chronicle reported. The district will be represented by a Democrat for the first time in 30 years, according to the Current. Spartz, first elected in 2020, was seeking a fourth term.
The result is a media race call, not election certification.
