Democratic Rep. Laura Gillen won a second term in New York’s 4th Congressional District, defeating Republican Jeanine Driscoll, according to Long Island Press and the New York Post.
The result holds the Long Island seat for Democrats. It is not a party flip.
Gillen, a Rockville Centre attorney and former Hempstead town supervisor, campaigned on affordability and tax relief. Long Island Press reported that she highlighted federal funding for Nassau County, including police and fire departments, and support for restoring the full state and local tax deduction.
Driscoll, Hempstead’s receiver of taxes, acknowledged the loss and said she would continue advocating for tax relief in her current role, Long Island Press reported.
Official vote counting and election certification continue after race calls and concessions.
