LeanTaaS has acquired LookDeep Health as it prepares to add computer-vision patient monitoring to its iQueue hospital operations platform, Fierce Healthcare reported Tuesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The completed acquisition brings LookDeep’s patient-room monitoring technology and virtual care experience into LeanTaaS. A separate step is still planned: the launch of iQueue for Virtual Care, which would use signals from cameras and other compatible in-room devices to help care teams identify and respond to patient needs.

LeanTaaS founder and CEO Mohan Giridharadas told Fierce Healthcare that the system is intended to turn an event such as a patient trying to get out of bed without help into a prioritized task, rather than another disconnected alarm. A virtual observation team could review the event, speak remotely with the patient or ask bedside staff to respond.

Clinical decisions would remain with human clinicians, Giridharadas said. The urgency of an event and where it is sent would depend on the patient’s circumstances and the hospital’s own protocols, with iQueue providing context and helping coordinate the response.

The planned offering spans virtual observation, virtual nursing for tasks such as admissions and discharge preparation, and connections to remote physicians and specialists. LeanTaaS also plans to extend ambient intelligence into other iQueue workflows, including inpatient flow and operating rooms, according to the report.

On its hardware page, LookDeep describes an approach that supports compatible existing cameras and in-room equipment as well as its own devices. That could allow hospitals to retain some equipment they already use, although deployment would depend on compatibility and local requirements.

The deal follows LeanTaaS’s September acquisition of care-transition platform Aidin. The latest purchase expands the information available to its hospital operations software, but the planned iQueue virtual care launch should not be confused with the acquisition itself.
