Democrat Letitia James is projected to win a third term as New York attorney general, defeating Republican challenger Saritha Komatireddy, Spectrum News reported Tuesday night. The Times Union and WRGB also reported her third-term victory.

James declared victory Tuesday evening. Komatireddy, a former federal prosecutor, challenged the incumbent in a contest focused on public safety, accountability and the attorney general’s role.

WRGB reported that James had emphasized her work on fraud, public safety and nursing-home care, while Komatireddy campaigned on bail reform, fraud investigations and changes to the handling of people with severe mental illness.

The reported outcome is not election certification.
