Lockheed Martin completed its acquisition of Ultra Maritime on Monday, adding sonar, sonobuoy and other undersea warfare systems to its defense business.

The acquired business will operate within Lockheed Martin’s Rotary and Mission Systems unit, the company said in its October 26 closing announcement.

Ultra Maritime develops equipment used by allied naval forces to detect and counter underwater threats. Its products include sonar technologies, sonobuoys, torpedo defense systems, radar, electronic warfare equipment and autonomous maritime sensing platforms.

The closing brings Ultra Maritime’s international operations and product lines into Lockheed Martin’s portfolio. Lockheed said Ultra’s towed sonar arrays, hull-mounted sonar and sonobuoys would complement its existing sonar offerings for maritime platforms.

Stephanie C. Hill, president of Lockheed Martin’s Rotary and Mission Systems business, said the combination was intended to meet naval customers’ demand for undersea warfare capabilities.

Lockheed Martin did not restate the purchase price in the closing release.
