Small drones are becoming a problem for security teams responsible for facilities and infrastructure. Magos Systems is offering a radar-based approach designed to spot low-flying aircraft and help operators distinguish them from birds.
The company’s AR-300 drone-detection radar combines radar tracking with its MASS AI system. Magos says it can detect, track and classify small unmanned aircraft in real time and connect the resulting alerts to a site’s wider security system.
Radar adds another way to watch the perimeter
Magos lists a detection range beyond 300 meters for a DJI Mavic drone and coverage of 120 degrees horizontally and vertically. Those are the company’s stated specifications, not a guarantee of the same result at every site.
The system is intended to give security staff earlier notice of an approaching drone. Magos says its classification tools can distinguish drones from birds and that the radar operates in rain, fog and darkness.
The company also describes a setup using four radars and a pan-tilt-zoom camera for broader coverage. Its software can direct a camera toward a detected target and use video-based classification to help security staff assess what is approaching.
Detection is not the same as stopping a drone
The capabilities described on the product page concern finding, tracking and classifying aircraft. They should not be confused with a promise that the radar itself will disable or intercept a drone.
Magos says the system connects to third-party security systems and can be planned around a site’s layout. Its site-design tools map radar and camera coverage and identify installation points, making the layout of the facility part of the deployment rather than a one-size-fits-all choice.
The specifications describe an available product. The company page does not establish a new customer contract or a new deployment announcement, so this report does not present either as confirmed.
