Republican Sen. Ashley Moody has won Florida’s special U.S. Senate election over Democrat Angie Nixon, the Associated Press reports. The seat remains in Republican hands. Read the AP race call via WTOP.

The result keeps the seat in Republican hands. Moody was appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis after Marco Rubio left the Senate to become secretary of state, Fox reported. This is a Republican hold, not a party flip.

Moody previously served as Florida’s attorney general. Nixon, a member of the Florida House of Representatives, secured the Democratic nomination after defeating Alex Vindman, according to Fox.

Fox posted the call at 8:35 p.m. Eastern. The projection is not a certified result, and this report includes no vote totals or margin. The outcome of this race does not by itself establish which party will control the Senate.
