Ukrainian civilians evacuated from Russian-occupied Oleshky have crossed into Ukraine’s Chernihiv region, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday, confirming that the humanitarian operation had brought residents back into Ukrainian-controlled territory.

In a statement on his official Telegram channel, Zelensky said people needing evacuation had been taken out of Oleshky and the surrounding community. He did not give a total for those who crossed the border.

The announcement marks a further step beyond the evacuees’ earlier arrival in Belarus. Zelensky’s statement confirms that Ukrainian citizens from Oleshky have now entered Ukraine, where he said they would receive the help they need.

Zelensky said a pause in fighting on the Kherson front had allowed roads into Oleshky to be cleared of mines and humanitarian supplies delivered. He said he expected humanitarian access to the town to remain available.

He thanked the American side and first lady Melania Trump for mediation, as well as Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets and his team for carrying out the mission. He also credited Ukraine’s defense forces with providing security conditions for the operation.

The president called on government agencies and regional and local authorities to help the evacuees adapt. He said further steps to reduce tensions were needed.

The statement concerned the Oleshky humanitarian operation. It did not announce a wider ceasefire or an agreement ending the war.
