Businesses and users who connect OpenAI tools to other services are the focus of a new security partnership. OpenAI said Friday it will work with Hacktron to find weaknesses where its systems meet outside services.

OpenAI engineers and Hacktron security researchers will jointly choose high-priority areas to test, focusing on interactions with third-party services, the company said in its partnership announcement. OpenAI is also expanding Hacktron’s access to its frontier models through Daybreak Red.

The work targets a growing challenge for AI systems that connect apps and services: a weakness can arise in the connections between systems, rather than within one app alone. OpenAI said it will use the testing to strengthen its defenses.

Hacktron builds AI agents for code review, penetration testing and red teaming. OpenAI said the researchers’ work has uncovered vulnerabilities in the way applications, cloud infrastructure and identity systems interact.

OpenAI said it first became familiar with Hacktron through its Security Bug Bounty program and was impressed by vulnerabilities the researchers had found and disclosed.

“The future of cybersecurity won’t be defined by who has the largest security team, but by who can best combine human creativity with AI-driven capabilities,” Hacktron CEO Zayne Zhang said in the announcement.

The partnership adds to OpenAI’s security work announced earlier this week, including plans to work with Cathedral researchers in its next security sprint and higher rewards for independent bug hunters.
