The Savannah River Site Area Emergency was terminated at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, and protective actions were lifted, according to the site’s 10:08 p.m. official status update. Site barricades had reopened.

The update said oncoming shift workers should report to work as usual and all other employees should report as scheduled on Thursday, October 29.

A fire at Savannah River National Laboratory in South Carolina had been extinguished, according to the Savannah River Site’s earlier 7:30 p.m. official update.

“No contamination has been reported outside the affected facility,” that 7:30 p.m. update said.

The earlier statement had reported precautionary closures of incoming site traffic and restrictions on rail, river and air traffic in the vicinity of the site near Aiken. The 10:08 p.m. status update said protective actions had been lifted and site barricades had reopened, but did not separately address rail, river or air traffic.

The 7:30 p.m. statement said employees in affected areas who were not involved in emergency response or shutdown operations had been sheltered as a precaution. It said site officials had notified the appropriate state and local government agencies.
