Two senior Justice Department officials left Friday: Miami’s top federal prosecutor and the head of the department’s national security division, which handles terrorism, espionage and leak cases.
The top federal prosecutor in South Florida resigned Friday, Attorney General Todd Blanche announced on X.
“United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Jason Reding Quiñones submitted his resignation from the Department of Justice,” Blanche wrote. “We are grateful for Jason’s leadership in combatting violent crime, drug trafficking, sex trafficking, and transnational crime, including the indictment of Raúl Castro. Jason has served the Department multiple times over his distinguished career, and we thank him for his service to this country.”
No reason for the resignation was given.
John Eisenberg, the assistant attorney general in charge of the National Security Division, also resigned Friday, according to two people familiar with the matter, and other sources said the same. Neither the department nor Eisenberg had commented when this was published. No reason or effective date has been given.
The division handles terrorism, leak and espionage prosecutions and was part of the case against former national security adviser John Bolton. The departures come a day after Harmeet Dhillon announced she was leaving as head of the department’s Civil Rights Division.
