A tanker was struck by two unknown projectiles in the Arabian Gulf on Sunday evening, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center said. All crew members were accounted for, and there was no reported environmental impact when the warning was issued. Authorities were investigating.

The incident was reported 72 nautical miles east of Ras Al Khafji, Saudi Arabia, according to UKMTO Warning 192-26. The tanker was traveling southeast when it was hit on its port side, meaning the left side of the ship.

UKMTO listed the incident time as 23:47 UTC on November 1, or 6:47 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The warning identified the vessel’s master as the source of the report.

The notice did not name the tanker or identify who launched the projectiles. It did not describe them as missiles, and it did not say what kind of weapons they were.

“All crew are accounted for” means the crew’s whereabouts were known. The warning did not provide an injury assessment, a damage report or details about the tanker’s cargo.

UKMTO advised ships to pass through the area with caution and report suspicious activity while authorities investigated. Its statement that there was no reported environmental impact was limited to what was known at the time of the notice.

The reported location was in the Arabian Gulf, east of Saudi Arabia’s coast. The alert did not place the incident in the Strait of Hormuz or establish any connection to other attacks in the region.
