Waking up to see the golden walls of the Old City of Jerusalem is something the Jewish people have dreamed about for generations. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to be able to do so at the City of David guest resorts last week.
The resort, which is steps away from the Western Wall, is directly next to the City of David archaeological site. However, City of David has now expanded its reach in the area to offer more than just fascinating historical tours. There is a hanging bridge, plenty of nearby parks, a light show, and Israel’s longest zip line.
I was able to go zip lining with a companion of mine, and found it to be magical. We began at Trotner Park, and walked along the Armon Hanatziv Promenade until we reached Mitzpe David.
We were fitted for harnesses and helmets, and waited a few short minutes before our ride of a lifetime.
Soaring above the pine forests, you can see the entire Jerusalem skyline laid out at your feet. If I’d kept my phone on me, I certainly would have taken pictures of the breathtaking views.
I’d recommend the Mitzpe David Zip Line for families with children with boundless energy, or any thrill-seekers in general. It was 731 meters of pure fun!
Facilities were well maintained, comfortable, and spacious
After all of that adventure, my companion and I were excited to take a breather in our room at the City of David Guest Resort.
The overall facilities were well maintained, comfortable, and spacious. It’s perfect for families with young children or couples who just want a little bit of extra space.
My room was great. I found that it was tastefully decorated with touches that felt biblical and modern at the same time. I also enjoyed the pristine bathroom, which featured a spacious shower with excellent water pressure. The room also had comfortable furniture, a mini fridge, tea and coffee service, and a great view of the courtyard and the ancient walls beyond.
The gated courtyard in the facility was gorgeous and featured well-maintained landscaping. I thought that the trailing grapevines and the fig and olive trees scattered around the property gave it an authentic touch. The courtyard made me feel like I could slow down, sit back, and just enjoy all of the beauty the Holy City has to offer.
After a bit of a rest, my companion and I enjoyed a short bus ride to dinner and drinks near Shuk Mahaneh Yehuda. We wandered around the area, trying several places that were new to us, and enjoyed being tourists in our own country.
After all of that, I ended my day of adventures in Jerusalem in a comfortable, spacious bed with luxurious sheets.
The premier location in terms of Old City access
It cannot be emphasized enough that this resort does one thing better than any other hotel in Jerusalem: its access to the Old City.
Not only is the resort directly next to the archaeological wonders of the ancient City of David tour, but it is also just minutes away from the Dung Gate entrance to the Old City.
The next morning, my companion and I were able to start our second day of adventures without the hassle of navigating public transportation.
We got an early start to the day and left the resort at around 10 a.m., just as several tour groups began flooding into the property to see the archaeological sites. The resort’s proximity to the heart of Jerusalem let us take our time to walk through the Old City unhurried, happy, and well-rested.
If you’re looking to take a step back in time while still enjoying all of the comforts of the modern day, the City of David Guest Resort is the place for you.■
