Three people were injured in a shooting at a U.S. Postal Service facility in Des Moines on Thursday, and the suspected shooter was detained, police told KCCI.

All three injured people were taken to local hospitals, and their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, KCCI reported in its update at 10:11 a.m. Central, or 11:11 a.m. Eastern, citing authorities.

Police say shooting was on the second floor

Des Moines police told KCCI that the shooting was first called in around 9:10 a.m. Central, or 10:10 a.m. Eastern, and took place on the facility’s second floor. A police spokesperson told the station that the suspected shooter had been detained.

Neither a motive nor the suspect’s identity was reported in the KCCI account.

Investigation continues

Governor Kim Reynolds said she was in contact with the Department of Public Safety and that the suspected shooter was in custody while the investigation continued, according to a social-media post quoted by KCCI.

The confirmed development in the report is that police had detained a suspect and three people were receiving hospital treatment. Authorities had not supplied a motive or a fuller account of what led to the shooting.
