Two IDF soldiers have been indicted in connection with several cases of weapons and ammunition theft from military bases, the Israel Police announced on Tuesday.
According to the police, the soldiers were connected to “a series of weapons offenses, chief among them removing weapons from military authority and arms trafficking.”
According to police, three of the thefts were carried out by both defendants with a third soldier, a friend of the main defendant, and three of the weapons were sold in exchange for more NIS 100,000 each.
The soldiers are both residents of northern Israel and are in mandatory service.
Investigation conducted alongside Military Police
The arrests were made as part of a joint investigation with Officers from the Coastal District Central Unit and the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division.
The investigation revealed that the primary defendant “took advantage of his access to tents where combat soldiers in the battalion slept and stole three assault rifles,” as well as stole a MAG machine gun from a military vehicle.
